Educational trips: Visit European places of memory with us!

Educational trips (for schoolchildren and adults) are useful tools for raising awareness of the conditions that have given Europe its political, social and cultural form. They make it possible to highlight the interplay of various influences which have shaped European integration.

The Scy-Chazelles site occupies an eminent place among European places of remembrance. CERS offers cultural trips that seek to bring to light the pioneers of Europe and democracy, the spirit of peace and reconciliation, and other European values.

Yet the European Union that is emerging before our eyes is not a recent development brought about by the Schuman Plan alone; rather, it is the result of a protracted development that is as old as Europe itself.

This guiding principle gives rise to the idea of educational or cultural excursions planned as great books of Europe, inviting participants of all ages to learn about a significant period of European history.

The CERS offers different circuits that can be adapted to the age of the participants, the budget available and the desired duration (5 days maximum). The detailed program of a trip will be developed in close cooperation with interested parties.

Conditions: Educational trips are limited to a maximum of 50 people per travel group

Age: High school level

For some inspiration, here is a description of a classic circuit:

TO THE ROOTS OF EUROPEAN IDENTITY: FROM WAR TO PEACE

This trip takes place in the Greater Saar-Lor-Lux-Rhineland-Palatinate-Wallonia Region, a region of Europe home to a painful past. Three past wars fought between France and Germany resulted in thousands of dead, left widows and orphans, and fueled hostility between the two nations' populations... It was in these borderlands that the European peace project was born. After more than 60 years without conflict, it obtained the Nobel Prize Peace in recognition of the feat.

During the circuit, you will discover the pertinent sites of memory of the wars of 1870 (Museum in Gravelotte), 1914-18 (sites of Verdun) and 1939-40 (works of the Maginot line). You will also note the importance of the role of this territory in the construction of a united Europe. Finally, you will end your tour with a "European day" at Robert Schuman's House in Scy-Chazelles, a visit to the Council of Europe or the European Parliament in Strasbourg, or some of the European institutions in Luxembourg or Brussels.

Other trips are devoted to themes such as the Fathers of Europe, sustainable development, the role of the iron and steel industries in the Greater Region or the roots of European identity. Contact us for more information.
