Robert Schuman European Centre - CERS
For the second seminar of the RETOUR project, the CERS team traveled to the Czech Republic for a few days in summer.
The Czech team helped us discover the city of Jáchymov and its singular history linked to political prisoners and the labour camps in which the latter extracted uranium in mines which adjoin the city. The group was in turn able to explore these mines, which served as a time machine, and which allowed us to discover a former labor camp, which is soon to be rehabilitated into a community center.
The RETOUR project is supported by six partners from six European countries. Each institution organizes a seminar in its region and welcomes other participants to help them discover local history and discuss different approaches to commemoration and teaching.
The Robert Schuman European Centre will organise its seminar in June 2023 in Metz and Scy-Chazelles. Moreover, it also sends interested participants abroad during each seminar to enrich their knowledge on the various themes proposed such as Nazism, anti-communist movements, political prisoners and labor camps, colonialism and post-colonialism, etc.
With this documentary, you too may immerse yourself in the story of Jáchymov!
