A look back at our tour of the German-speaking Community of Belgium!
In March, the Centre européen Robert Schuman had the pleasure of running several sessions of the role-playing game ‘Nature and Power’ with secondary school pupils from across the Community. Most of the sessions took place at the Parliament of the German-speaking Community in Eupen.
How can we reconcile infrastructure development, environmental protection, citizens’ needs and budgetary constraints? Through a fictional yet highly realistic scenario, the pupils had to take on different roles, defend sometimes conflicting interests and, above all… learn the art of compromise!
Mayors, hospital managers, conservationists, residents and political representatives: everyone had a voice to make heard during the debates.
The photos bear witness to their involvement: lively discussions, strategic negotiations, group work and well-argued contributions set the tone for these days rich in exchange.
In total, nearly 300 pupils took part in this project, developed in partnership with the ‘Wie geht denn Politik?’ consortium as part of an Erasmus+ project.
It was a wonderful opportunity to discover that democracy is not just about voting, but is also built through dialogue, listening and the search for shared solutions.
