The Cross-Border Days of the CERS as Part of the 75th Anniversary of the Schuman Declaration

These days were organized by the Robert Schuman European Center (CERS), in cooperation with the Pedagogical Institute of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Rectorate of the Grand Est Academic Region, the Nancy-Metz education authority, and with support from the Interreg “Engagement Grande Région” program. On May 15, around fifty high school students from the Lycée Jeanne d’Arc in Nancy (Lorraine) and the Hermeskeil Gymnasium (Rhineland-Palatinate) took part in the activities. On May 16, seventy middle school students from the Collège Michel de Montaigne in Dompaire and the Moseltal Realschule plus in Trier joined the event. The day began with multilingual language games encouraging intercultural communication between the young people from both countries. They then participated in Euromind, an interactive workshop specially designed for this anniversary, inviting them to reflect creatively on the challenges facing the European Union.

Divided into Franco-German groups, the students also collaborated on assembling a giant puzzle of the Greater Region, before taking part in several thematic quizzes on cross-border topics such as daily mobility, the environment, culture, the economy, and shared sites of remembrance. A guided tour of the Robert Schuman House rounded out the day, anchoring the exchange in a place rich with history and a powerful symbol of European integration. These cross-border days aimed to develop young people's civic skills, raise awareness of current European issues, and strengthen their sense of belonging to a shared region beyond national borders.
