In order to enhance the heritage of the Robert Schuman House, a museum listed as a European Cultural Heritage, the Moselle Department, the Municipality of Scy-Chazelles and the Robert Schuman Association have decided to pool real estate resources and collections of the Robert Schuman Museum. The Robert Schuman European Centre in Scy-Chazelles, House of Europe in Scy-Chazelles, association (law of 1908), was created on the 9th of May, 2000 with the mission to make known the work of Robert Schuman and to contribute to the international development and enlivenment of the Scy-Chazelles site.
The Robert Schuman European Centre (CERS) does not pursue any profit, political, religious or philosophical goals. It is financially supported by the General Council of the Moselle Department, the European Union, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (European Affairs), the Robert Schuman Foundation (Paris), the Robert Schuman Association, the Franco-German Youth Office, etc..
The Centre européen Robert Schuman is a House of Europe.
What is a House of Europe?
The Houses of Europe are associations that emerged from a citizens’ movement in the late 1940s with the aim of forging links between formerly hostile peoples and facilitating reconciliation after the Second World War.
Today, the Houses of Europe act as links between the European institutions and citizens. The aim is to enable citizens to understand complex mechanisms, to stay informed, and to be able to discuss and make informed decisions on current European issues. To this end, the Houses of Europe offer various services, using methods of popular education, such as:
Language courses
Guidance and information on European mobility
Conferences and debates
School outreach programmes
Cultural activities
Intercultural exchanges And much more!...
The Houses of Europe operate with the support of local authorities and in partnership with numerous stakeholders on the ground from the educational, economic, social and cultural sectors. Half of them also hold the European Commission’s ‘Europe Direct’ label.
Since 2011, the French Federation of Houses of Europe has been organising its Federal Meetings (formerly the University of the Houses of Europe) in the autumn or spring. At this annual gathering, a range of workshops are offered to staff and volunteers at the Houses of Europe. In addition, conferences are organised, some of which may be open to the general public. The CERS attended the 2026 Federal Meetings of the French Federation of Houses of Europe on 26 March 2026 in Paris.
